Child Welfare League of America: National Data Analysis System

The Child Welfare League of America calls this the "most comprehensive collection of child welfare data available." This site aggregates data from a number of other sources including the U.S. Census from 1990 - present, the federal Adoption and Foster Care Reporting System, Center for Disease Control, Urban Institute and many more. The site includes fact sheets, bulletins and downloadable data as well as graphs, charts and state-by-state comparible data on child welfare issues.

Individual information includes address and phone number taken from phone books, along with estimated median household income and median home value based on U.S. Census information. The business directory offers more detailed information, such as company contact information, line of business, NAICS code(s), number of employees and more.

A web-based bibliographic management database, similar to ProCite or EndNote. This database allows users to import, export, and format reference citations and bibliographies easily and is accessible over the Internet from any location. Make sure you access RefWorks through the library web pages or go through Search Tools in order to be correctly logged in to RefWorks when off campus.

A source for health and social science data sets from 200 different studies, ranging from aging, teen pregnancy, family, maternal drug abuse, etc. Much of this data is historic, from the 1980's through the 1990's and not collected within the last ten years. The raw data sets are available for download.

International multidisciplinary journal literature index, with searchable author abstracts, covering a broad range of social science literature including anthropology, social work, public health, urban studies, law and more. Indexes 1700 journals spanning 50 disciplines. Each ISI database is limited to 35 simultaneous connections.

An index of social services literature, including social welfare, policy and community development. Abstracts cover journal articles, dissertations and book reviews. While this database indexes more journals than Social Work Abstracts, many of the journals are not available on this campus. Compatible with RefWorks.

Social Work Abstracts is produced by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and offers journal citations on such topics as homelessness, AIDS, child & family welfare, aging, substnace abuse, legislation, community organization and more. Covers more than 450 journals in the areas of the social work profession, theory and practice, areas of service, social issues and social problems. Social Work Abstracts is the most appropriate index for the finding citations to journals that are available on this campus. Users can simultaniously search Social Work Abstracts with other databases offered through EBSCO.

Thomas also provides links to other government resources and information on the legislative process.
