Borrowing Items From Other Libraries

If there is a book or journal article that the University Library, the Law Library or the Business Library does not own that you would like to read, then you can request an Interlibrary Loan for that item. Most journal articles will be delivered to your desktop in electronic format and you will receive an email to let you know when they are available.

If you retired from the Medical Campus, then you would use the forms found here to make your request. If you retired from the Law School, then you would contact the Law Library to make your request. All others should go here, click on the ILLiad (ILL Request) link at the bottom of the page, and fill out the form. The FAQ link on the same initial page will give you additional information about what other materials generally are and are not available through ILL. This is, in the majority of cases, a free service and you will be contacted if there is a special circumstance and a fee is required. Interlibrary Loan can deliver your requests that are in a non-electronic format to your departmental office if you still have an office at the University.

For those who are not currently in Ann Arbor or the vicinity and who are not requesting journal articles, please note that you are generally eligible to use the Interlibrary Loan services at any library where you have borrowing privileges. This would also allow you to request that University of Michigan books be sent to this other library where you have borrowing privileges.
