The University of Michigan Papyrus Collection

Information Desk

This is the place to find more information about the Papyrus Collection. If you have a question that is not answered here, please consult our Frequently Asked Questions page or feel free to contact us via email at one of the addresses listed below.

Hours and Location

The papyrus collection is located in room 807 of the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library. We are generally open weekdays during normal business hours. Access to the papyrology library can also be arranged through the main circulation desk or through Special Collections (on the 7th floor).

Visiting the Collection

If you are planning a visit, please see the contact page for information on finding the library, including links to maps and directions.

The papyrology library is open to the public, but we do have a non lending policy. Access to the papyrus collection is restricted to researchers and students. Guided tours of the collection and demonstrations of our equipment may be given from time to time upon request.

For visitors interested in seeing the papyri, an annual exhibit featuring Biblical papyri, as well as Biblical holdings from other departments of the University Library, is displayed in the Special Collections gallery in December and January.
